Legal Aid Ontario to begin consultation process for minimum experience standards for roster members
Published: December 13, 2021
As part of Legal Aid Ontario’s (LAO) implementation of the Legal Aid Services Act, 2020 and the new Legal Aid Service Rules, LAO will begin consultations about the proposed minimum experience standards that prospective roster members must meet to be eligible to provide legal aid certificate and duty counsel services in specific areas of law. These consultations will begin Dec. 13, 2021.
While the consultations are focused only on the minimum experience standards, the goal for LAO is to ensure that low-income Ontarians receive high-quality, professional and culturally appropriate services.
“By engaging in meaningful dialogue with our justice partners, we hope to build a sustainable framework that supports our roster members in providing these services,” said LAO’s CEO David Field.
Consultations are open until Jan. 24, 2022. Materials are posted on LAO’s consultation webpage.
