The government charges application fees for refugee matters

Even if you are a refugee claimant eligible for legal aid and even if you have a legal aid certificate, you still have to pay Citizenship and Immigration Canada application and filing fees for your refugee and immigration matters.
For instance, refugee claimants have to pay filing fees:
- to apply for permanent residency on the basis of humanitarian and compassionate grounds-$550 per adult and $150 per child
- to stay in Canada as a permanent resident-$75 per application, plus $475 for the principal applicant, $550 for the applicant’s partner, and $150 per child
- for work permits, for permanent residency, family sponsorships and many more.
