Community Legal Clinic of York Region – Housing Caseworkers – Paralegal
The Community Legal Clinic of York Region is seeking an experienced licensed paralegal or lawyer on a three-year contract for our Housing Team. The proposed start date for this position is November 2023. The salary range is $65,000.00 – $82,000.00, depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
- The caseworker will spend half of their time promoting, organizing and providing public legal education in housing rights to newcomers throughout York Region;
- The caseworker will spend half of their time with our Eviction Prevention Program, doing Tenant Duty Counsel, assisting caseworkers with intake, file organization, and case preparation, and providing legal advice and representation;
- The caseworker will be expected to work out of our office in Richmond Hill, various locations throughout York Region and from home.
Qualifications Include:
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- At least 3 years housing law experience is an asset;
- Experience with the Landlord Tenant Board;
- Experience providing public legal education;
- Understanding of anti-racism and social justice and how to apply this understanding in the practice of law;
- Excellent oral and written advocacy skills;
- Legal Clinic experience is an asset;
- Ability to provide legal services to Franco-Ontarians is an asset;
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset;
