Job Opening: 14 Month Contract – Community Legal Worker/Paralegal (July 2024 – September 2025)
ABOUT US: The Legal Clinic of Guelph and Wellington County (GWLC) is a not-for-profit community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We provide high quality legal services to low-income residents of Guelph and Wellington County through summary advice, brief services, representation, referrals, public legal education, and community outreach. We are committed to responding to the needs of our community in innovative ways that promote access to justice.
JOB TITLE: Contract Community Legal Worker/Paralegal
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
COMPENSATION: $62,000-$67,000 (commensurate with relevant experience)

Responsibilities
- Provide housing law summary advice, brief services, advocacy and representation at the Landlord and Tenant Board and other tribunals and levels of court, as required;
- Provide appropriate referrals and connect clients with resources;
- Deliver public legal information sessions to members of the community;
- Engage in community development and outreach initiatives;
- Deliver Tenant Duty Counsel Services at the Landlord and Tenant Board
Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
- Be a licensee of the Law Society of Ontario and in good standing to practice law;
- Have an understanding of poverty and the issues our community experiences;
- Demonstrated ability practicing Ontario residential tenancy law;
- Knowledge of income support legislation (ODSP, OW, CPP, OAS) is an asset;
- Be able to travel throughout Guelph and Wellington County;
- Be able to work with clients who have complex needs, creatively problem solve, and work independently as well as part of a team.
