Coming soon: new coverage for mandatory judicial pre‑trials in response to COVID‑19
Published: June 1, 2020
LAO will soon provide an additional two hours of legal aid coverage for mandatory JPTs in both the Ontario Superior Court and the Court of Justice.
Courts may now require lawyers to attend an additional JPT to address cases that have been delayed due to the pandemic.
This new coverage for these hearings is another support LAO is providing to clients and lawyers, as part of our response to COVID‑19.
Eligibility
Matters must be set down for either a preliminary inquiry or trial, and the JPT must have occurred after March 16, 2020.
As soon as we have made some changes to Legal Aid Online, we will notify you, and you will be able to obtain the authorization online.
This special COVID JPT coverage is in addition to LAO’s existing second JPT coverage, which is still available, subject to the eligibility requirements of that program.
