How do I clear my cache / delete my cookies?
For PC web browsers
Google Chrome
- Open the browser
- Access the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of Chrome
- Select “More tools”
- Select “Clear browsing data”
When the dialog box opens, options will be presented to delete your browsing, download history, cookies, cached imagines and files. You will have the option of deleting information from the last hour, day, week, month, or from “the beginning of time.”
Microsoft Edge
To find your browser history, press Ctrl+Shift+Del
In the address bar, type “edge://settings/clearBrowserData”.
Alternatively, in an open browser, you can:
- Access the three-dot menu in the upper right hand corner of Edge
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Settings” (again)
- Select “Privacy, search and services”
- Select “Clear Browsing Data”
- Select “Choose what to clear”
You will then have the option of clearing browsing history, cookies, or more for specific date and time ranges. Please note, deleting your browsing history on this device will delete it on any other device you have synced Edge with as well.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) or Internet Explorer 10 (IE10):
- Access the “gear” icon on the upper left hand of the screen
- Select “Internet Options”
- Select “General” tab
- Check the box next to “Delete browsing history on exit” or select the “delete” button to clear history, passwords, cookies, and cached data immediately
Safari
To delete browsing history in macOS:
- Open the browser
- Click “History”
- Select “Clear History”
- In the dialogue box that appears, select the timeframe of how far back you want to erase.
Alternatively, in an open browser you can:
- Select “History”
- Select “Show All History”.
This will allow you to search for individual sites you want to clear history on.
To delete cookies in Safari:
- Open browser
- Select “Preferences”
- Select “Privacy”
You can then manage website data via the button.
Mozilla Firefox
- Open web browser
- Access the menu
- Select “Options”
- Select “Privacy and Security”
- Scroll down until you see “History”
You then have the option to customize a time range to clear (one, two, four or 24 hours, or everything) and what data you would like to dump (history, logins, forms/search, cookies, and cache).
Opera
- Open the browser and access the navigation bar on the left
- Select the “clock” icon. This allows you to enter “history”.
- Click the “Clear browsing data”
You will then have the option of selecting what type of data you want to clear, and what timeframes you want to clear.
For mobile browsers
Safari
Safari is the default browser on iPhones and iPads. To delete history on a device:
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Safari”
- Select “Clear History and Website Data”
This will remove the history, cookies, and other data. If the device is signed in to an iCloud account, this process will clear the history on iCloud, as well as any other devices associated with that iCloud account.
Chrome
Chrome is the default browser on all Android phones. It can also be downloaded on iOS. To delete history:
- Access the three-dot menu
- Select “History”
- Select “Clear Browsing Data” (in iOS you will select “Edit”)
A dialog box will open where you can pick what you want to delete, and the time period.
Firefox
Firefox is available for use on both iOS and Android. How history is deleted in each is slightly different.
On iOS:
- Click the menu at the bottom right
- Select “Settings”
- Scroll to the Privacy section and select “Data Management”
The next page allows you to turn off collection of browser history (data caching, cookies, offline website data). Click the “Clear Private Data” link at the bottom to clear everything.
On Android:
- Access the menu at the upper right hand of the browser
- Select “History”
- Select “Clear Browser History” at the bottom to remove them all
Opera
Opera can be used on either iOS or Android, and comes in several variations such as Opera Mini and Opera Touch. How history is deleted in each is slightly different.
Opera Mini On iOS
- Click the “O” menu at the bottom
- Select “History”
- Click on the trash can icon
If you would prefer to clear only certain parameters:
- Click the “O” menu at the bottom
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Clear”. This will display options to clear saved passwords, browsing history, or cookies and data
Regular Opera on iOS
- Click on the “Tabs” page
- Select the three-dot menu
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Clear Browser Data”
- Select “Browsing History”
Regular Opera on Android
- Access the hamburger menu
- Select “History”
- Select the “trash can icon”
If you would prefer to clear only certain parameters:
- Access the hamburger menu
- Select “Settings”
- Scroll down to the Privacy section and select “Clear Browsing Data”. This will allow you to delete individual passwords, history or cookies
