Become an LAO advisor on complex criminal matters

Published: April 5, 2018

If you’re an experienced criminal lawyer who’s interested in advising Legal Aid Ontario on cases that are either factually or legally complex, then we want to hear from you.

We have an advisory committee made up of criminal lawyers who:

  • review written materials including budget requests
  • hear oral submissions from lawyer applicants
  • help lawyer applicants develop and focus their case strategy
  • make budgetary recommendations to LAO

As a part of this committee, you will be compensated at LAO’s complex criminal rate for about two to five hours of preparation time for each meeting, as well as meeting attendance which usually lasts between one and a half to two hours. The meetings happen at least once every two months on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
