Data set: Number of people assisted by duty counsel

Duty counsel are LAO staff and per diem lawyers in courthouses. They can give immediate legal assistance to low-income people who would otherwise be unrepresented and unassisted.

Data collected in the set are for the people assisted by duty counsel per quarter. Results are divided into the areas of criminal law and civil law. The latter consists largely of people assisted in family law courts.

Note that data collected does not contain and information about client identities, their applications for legal aid or particulars for their case. This information is considered confidential as per the Legal Aid Services Act.
