Assisting Survivors of Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Assault

Legal Assistance of Windsor has a staff lawyer position available immediately for our Assisting Survivors of Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Assault Project. This is a full-time contract position until March 2026. The staff lawyer will provide legal advice and representation to survivors of gender-based violence and sexual assault. The lawyer will be part of our legal team and will engage in our program activities including case work, public and continuing legal education, law reform, community development, and student supervision.

Legal Assistance of Windsor (LAW) is an interdisciplinary clinic combining legal and social work professions to meet the multi-faceted needs of the low-income community in Windsor and Essex County. LAW is a joint service of the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor and Legal Aid Ontario. This project is funded by the Department of Justice.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Law Society of Ontario. Experience in criminal law is required. Experience in family law is an asset. They will have a collaborative approach to legal work and strong interpersonal skills. Experience and an ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting is essential. A strong interest in social justice and community development is required. An understanding of the intersectional relationship of gender identity, gender expression, violence, poverty, disability, and race is required. The annual salary will be commensurate with experience, starting at $80,000.00.
