Administrative assistant

Parkdale Community Legal Services (PCLS)

Permanent full-time position

Parkdale Community Legal Services (PCLS) is both a community legal clinic and teaching clinic for Osgoode Hall Law School students in downtown Toronto. We work with low income community members in a culturally diverse community. We focus our work in the areas of housing and homelessness, migrant rights and immigration law, workers’ rights, income security, violence and health, in conjunction with community development and organizing work to address systemic issues of social exclusion, displacement and poverty.

We are seeking an Administrative Assistant to provide support to the PCLS team in ensuring effective day to day operation of the clinic. The position is unionized and is included in the bargaining unit with other PCLS employees.

Reporting to the Operations and Program Director and working closely with the Office and Litigation Administrator, the Administrative Assistance provides clerical and administrative support to PCLS including: communicating with community members and clients on the telephone, through emails, or in person; providing legal information and making appropriate referrals; collecting and recording data related to telephone calls and correspondence; coordinating outgoing and incoming mailing; scanning, faxing, online communications, maintaining files and other duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize numerous tasks, function effectively under workload demands and adapt to changing organizational priorities.
  • Excellent computer skills including accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills and able to balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong de-escalation, conflict resolution, and diffusion skills.
  • Commitment to social justice and human rights

Assets:

  • Experience with case management software
  • Multilingual
  • Resident of the Parkdale-High Park neighbourhood or with significant ties to the community
  • Member of an equity-seeking group

Compensation and Application Process

PCLS offers a competitive salary and benefits package. This is a permanent full time position and is unionized. The salary is on the support position grid range from $60,000-65,000 commensurate with experience. The position also includes enrollment in our health benefits program and PCLS contributes 5.5% of your salary amount towards RRSP contributions.
