Staff Lawyer
STAFF LAWYER | CHINESE AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN LEGAL CLINIC | 6 MONTH CONTRACT POSITION
Funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO), the Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (CSALC) is a dynamic community legal clinic which serves low-income members of the Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laotian communities in Ontario.
CSALC is hiring a Staff Lawyer for a 6 -month contract position with the possibility of further extension. The Staff Lawyer will be responsible for casework, social justice advocacy and public legal education. The casework will include client intakes, summary advice, and representation before government tribunals and courts, including test case litigation.
Essential qualifications include:
- Lawyer member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Fluency or partial fluency in spoken Mandarin or Cantonese (additional competence in spoken Vietnamese an asset)
Ideally, you would also have:
- Experience in one or more of CSALC’s areas of practice including immigration, social assistance, income maintenance, housing and employment law
- Experience working directly with disadvantaged communities
- Ability to work collaboratively with lawyers and community legal workers
- Ability to manage caseload independently
Annual salary range of $78,000 to $85,000, depending on year of call on a pro-rated basis.
