Lawyer – Eviction Prevention Worker
Kingston Community Legal Clinic (KCLC) is seeking a junior lawyer to fill the position of Eviction Prevention Worker for a one year contract with the possibility of extension.
KCLC is a non-profit community legal clinic serving low-income residents of the City of Kingston, and the Townships of South Frontenac and Frontenac Islands. KCLC provides services primarily in the areas of landlord and tenant law, social assistance law, and human rights. More information about KCLC can be found at www.kclc.ca.
The position of Eviction Prevention Worker involves providing Tenant Duty Counsel services at the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB), representation of clients at hearings of the LTB, involvement in law reform activities and providing community legal education activities in the area of housing law.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
- Ability to work cooperatively and pleasantly with colleagues in a small office
- Ability to work independently
- Effective advocacy, writing, and research skills
- Analytical, organizational and time management skills
- Strong computer literacy
- Skills in public law litigation, including appeals and judicial review, are an asset
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Start Date: June 2024 (flexible)
- Work Hours: Four days weekly (0.8 FTE)
- Salary: $65,000 annually
- Participation in KCLC’s group benefits plan (subject to a waiting period)
- Participation in KCLC’s defined benefit pension plan
- Payment of LSO annual fees (prorated for employment period)
