Staff Lawyer
Niagara Community Legal Clinic (NCLC) is looking to hire a lawyer who can provide general service as a caseworker and advocate, within NCLC’s primary areas of law. The position is a permanent position.
Pay range:
Pursuant to the Niagara Community Legal Clinic collective agreement, the hired lawyer’s salary will depend on the number of years since the lawyer’s call to the bar. The current range is $78,715.00 – $119,617.95.
Primary duties:
- Tenant advice
- Tenant Duty Counsel service
- Landlord and Tenant Board representation
- Social Benefits Tribunal representation
- Small Claims Court representation
- Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) matters
- Potential service opportunities in human rights law, and in other spheres of administrative law and poverty law
Qualifications Include:
- Community legal clinic experience an asset.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario as a lawyer.
- Commitment to social justice issues and to service and work within an Anti-Racist, Anti-Oppressive, Decolonial, client-centred, trauma-informed framework.
- Commitment to the delivery of high quality legal services to disadvantaged clients.
- Demonstrated effective advocacy skills and a keen interest in relevant areas of law.
- Strong ability to handle multiple priorities in a high volume environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Capacity to work in French an asset, as is fluency in other languages.
