Immigration lawyer position
The HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO) is a community legal clinic serving the legal needs of people living with HIV in Ontario. HALCO staff provide legal advice and representation, and engage in public legal education, law reform and community development activities. We are seeking an immigration lawyer starting in August or September 2023. The person will be able to split their time between working in the office and working remotely (precise schedule to be determined).

Responsibilities
The lawyer will work closely with HALCO’s other immigration lawyer to provide summary advice and representation in relation to a wide range of immigration and refugee law matters. The lawyer will also be involved in public legal education, law reform and community development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Immigration/refugee law experience (minimum three years)
- Experience working with equity-seeking communities
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of poverty law (e.g., income maintenance, tenancy)
- Knowledge of HIV-affected communities
- Fluency in French
Compensation: $71,000 – $75,000 (commensurate with experience), employer supported RRSP (5.5% of annual salary), health and other benefits
