New coverage for Section 19 Youth Conferences

Legal Aid Ontario has introduced new coverage for Section 19 Youth Conferences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. This update recognizes the time and expertise roster lawyers dedicate to supporting youth in these proceedings.

Starting Dec.14, 2025, roster lawyers can request this coverage through Legal Aid Online when submitting a judicial pre-trial request. Similar to coverage for judicial pre-trials, lawyers will receive two hours of additional tariff coverage for preparing and attending these conferences.

Applies to youth criminal certificates issued on or after Dec. 13, 2025
Requires scheduling the conference at the time of request
Requires a judge or justice of the peace to be present
Does not change the billing process
