SCJ bail specialist opportunities

Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) will be hiring two dedicated SCJ Bail Specialists to help clients not assisted by private counsel with issues requiring applications to the SCJ and other complex bail litigation. One will be situated in the East region and the other, in the Central-East.

The Bail Specialists will assist with cases where:

• no roster lawyer is assisting;
• the duty counsel office does not have the capacity to assist; and
• duty counsel has determined that:
  • a bail review is necessary, or
  • a habeas corpus application should be brought due to the delay in addressing bail, or
  • the client needs representation at a Myers detention review hearing, or
  • a lengthy or complex bail hearing is required.

By having dedicated specialists available, clients will have immediate access to someone who can help them with complex bail-related issues and litigation.
