Timelines for your refugee claim
The timeline for your claim depends on where you started your claim. If you are making a claim when you arrive at a Canadian land border, airport or a seaport, you will not have much time to complete your Basis of Claim (BOC) form and immigration forms. The timeline for starting a claim is very different if you are making a claim from inside Canada.
To help you learn what the timelines are, choose the situation that best describes how you are starting your refugee claim.
- I am making a claim when I arrive at a Canadian border, airport or a seaport (Port of Entry (POE) claim).
- I am already in Canada and will be making a claim from within the country (Inland claim)
