Step-by-step instructions for using the Find a Lawyer Tool

This tool has four main search functions that enable you to narrow down results based on your preference:

  1. The “Address or postal code” allows you to use an address or postal code to find a lawyer near you. Tip: This can be your own home address or postal code or the courthouse address or postal code — the choice is yours. Based on the information you enter, the names of lawyers in the immediate vicinity will appear.
  2. The “Distance” allows you to determine how far away the listing of lawyers should be from the specified location you entered. You have the option to select 5 km, 10 km, 20 km, 100 km, 300 km, or 500 km.
  3. The “Sort by” allows you to prioritize results based on your preference. You have the option to have results sorted:
    • “Alphabetically” will display lawyer results in alphabetical order of the lawyers’ names on the listing.
    • “Distance” will display the name of the closest lawyer result first and the furthest result at the end.
  4. The “FILTERS” option allows you to refine the search results specific to your needs. It has three sub-options:
    • “Search by name” option allows you to search for a specific lawyer by name. You have the option to search by first or last name.
    • The “Specialities” option allows you to search by specific area(s) of law and/or specialities. You have the option to choose more than one specialty.
    • The “Language” option allows you to refine your search by lawyers who provide services in your preferred language. Note that English is the default language.

If you have difficulties finding a lawyer using this directory, please contact the Client Service Centre at 416-979-1446 or toll-free at 1-800-668-8258.
