Legal Aid Ontario releases Racialized Communities Strategy 2026 Action Plan Update
Published: March 20, 2026
To coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is pleased to share our Racialized Communities Strategy (RCS) 2026 Action Plan Update.
We have made meaningful strides this year through several key initiatives:
- strengthening access to language interpreter services
- expanding community partnerships
- continuing to expand financial eligibility thresholds to improve access to legal aid services
- launching a new Family Senior Counsel Program that expands family law services
These changes reflect the insights and feedback gathered through our continued engagement with equity-seeking organizations and community partners. Although we recognize there is more work ahead, these advancements represent concrete steps toward our shared goal of a more equitable justice system.
These initiatives are a result of the thoughtful input we have received from equity-seeking organizations and community partners. They are a tangible demonstration of progress toward the shared goal of a more equitable justice system, but they are not the final step.
We recognize that more work is needed to eliminate racial discrimination and to enhance access to justice for Ontario’s racialized communities. Our efforts on this front are continuing, and we have been pleased to collaborate with you.
