Step-by-step instructions for using the Find a Lawyer Tool
Using the Find a Lawyer tool, you can look for lawyers based on your location. When you search this way, the results automatically show lawyers starting with those closest to the location you enter.
You can also choose to search all lawyers without entering your location.
If you use this option, you can filter your results to help you find what you need. This can be helpful if you want to see every lawyer who works in a specific area of law, even if some are farther away.
- The “Address or postal code” box lets you enter any address or postal code to find the lawyer closest to that location.
Tip: You can use your home address or postal code, or you can use the address or postal code of the courthouse — whatever works best for you.
Based on the location you enter, the tool will show lawyers in order from closest to farthest from that spot.
- If you choose to search for a lawyer by name, the results will appear in alphabetical order by last name.
- The “Filters” option allows you to refine the search results specific to your needs. It has two sub-options:
- The “Specialties” option allows you to search by specific area(s) of law and/or specialities. You have the option to choose more than one specialty.
- The “Language” option allows you to refine your search by lawyers who provide services in your preferred language. Note that English is the default language.
