Windsor Essex Counter Exploitation Network (WECEN) Project Coordinator

Legal Assistance of Windsor (LAW) is seeking a 12-month contract, full-time Project Coordinator, with a start date on or after September 3, 2024.

About LAW

LAW is an interdisciplinary clinic combining legal and social work professions to meet the multi-faceted needs of the low-income community in Windsor and Essex County. LAW is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We strive to be an inclusive organization committed to fostering diversity in every aspect of our work, including hiring. WECEN is a project of LAW providing advocacy, case management and short term counselling to survivors of all forms of exploitation/trafficking.

About the Position

The WECEN Project Coordinator reports to the Coordinator of Social Work Services and consults on an ongoing basis with the WECEN team. The project coordinator provides intake, assessment, counselling, case management, crisis intervention, advocacy and referral to those experiencing exploitation and trafficking. Significant community outreach and public education. Other duties as assigned.

DUTY OR RESPONSIBILITY: Intake and Casework

  • Interviews clients to identify elements of exploitation and human trafficking.
  • Provides assessments, recommendations and referrals for clients based upon training and professional knowledge base.
  • Assesses client’s physical, emotional, social and developmental needs and develops an appropriate plan of treatment/action.
  • Provides short term professional counselling.
  • Provides crisis intervention by counselling and facilitating problem resolution for clients and staff, often involving coordination of services with outside agencies.
  • Acts as an advocate for clients’ rights to services and benefits.

DUTY OR RESPONSIBILITY: Administration

  • Follows all office policies and procedures, including recording and maintaining files.
  • Attends and Chairs WECEN Steering committee meetings.
  • Prepares agendas, minutes as required

DUTY OR RESPONSIBILITY: Community Services

  • Liaison with community groups, agencies and professionals to facilitate clinic/client needs by sharing and obtaining resources and information.
  • Develops & disseminates social media &/or written educational material and public education.
  • Conducts oral presentations and education to community and service providers.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related program from a recognized university. Previous experience in working with victims of crime and/or newcomers to Canada. Strong administrative, presentation, clinical and advocacy skills are essential.

Job Benefits

  • Annual salary of $70,565.40 commensurate with experience.
  • Vacation entitlements start at 3 weeks per year.
