Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (CSALC)
Funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO), the Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (CSALC) is a dynamic community legal clinic which serves low income members of Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laotian communities in Ontario.
CSALC is looking for a new Executive Director dedicated to advocating for racial equity and social justice. The Executive Director is not required to be a lawyer. The Executive Director is CSALC’s spokesperson and community representative. As the leader of CSALC, the Executive Director will work with the Board of Directors to establish and implement strategic goals and objectives for the clinic; and direct all aspects of CSALC’s operations and activities, including administration, personnel management, legal services (working with the Director of Legal Services), systemic advocacy, and community engagement.
The Executive Director will lead a team of eight staff in a unionized workplace, with a recently ratified second agreement expiring on March 31, 2027. The Executive Director will ensure that CSALC continues to build effective relationships with community and civic organizations, funders, and the client communities served by the clinic. The CSALC office is in downtown Toronto.
The ideal candidate would meet most of the following criteria:
- Competence in spoken Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese (this is a strong asset)
- Familiarity or experience working in one or more of the following areas; immigration, social assistance, tenant rights, employment, human rights
- Commitment to racial equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice
- Strong management and leadership skills, including collaborative approaches to building relationships with staff, Board and all stakeholders
- Experience with financial management and reporting
- Experience with human resources functions, including supervising staff, negotiating contracts, developing and implementing policies
- Experience with systemic advocacy, organizing campaigns and projects
- Developing and implementing strategic plans
- Experience with foundation applications and other forms of fundraising
- Experience in unionized workplaces
- Experience with not-for-profit organizations and community boards.
The salary range for the Executive Director will be $ 90,000 to $150,000. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and will include a group benefits package and employer RRSP contributions, plus the reward of knowing that your work will make a positive and longstanding impact for the marginalized communities.
