Willowdale Community Legal Services (WCLS) is a general service community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO). WCLS strives to serve low-income members of our community within the areas of poverty law that we practice. WCLS is seeking applications for the position of Legal Caseworker (Community Legal Worker/Paralegal or Lawyer). This is a contract position to cover a parental leave of approximately one year. The position is available July 4, 2022.

This position provides legal services (including summary advice, brief services such as document preparation and representation at various boards and tribunals) in the areas of housing law and consumer and debt law to low-income members residing within the catchment area of our legal clinic. The position also involves engaging with community members, organizations and agencies that provide services to members of our community. The duties of the position will be carried out through a combination of office and remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The position requires travel within Toronto (attending hearings and occasionally client home visits) from time-to-time.

Qualifications for the position:

  • Paralegal Diploma from an accredited college
  • Experience in the community legal worker/paralegal field
  • Superior time management skills
  • Excellence in communication and computer skills

Assets include:

  • Prior experience in a community legal clinic
  • Fluency in a second language.

The successful candidate must have a strong ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. This position requires someone who is reliable, well-organized and a team player. We encourage individuals from historically underrepresented communities to apply for the position.

Salary Range: $70,000 – $75,000 per year, dependent upon years of experience.
