Algoma Community Legal Clinic
The Algoma Community Legal Clinic Inc. (ACLC) is a community based legal clinic that provides legal services to low income individuals/families in the District of Algoma. ACLC is funded by Legal Aid Ontario, governed by a Board of Directors drawn from the community, and located at the hub of the Great Lakes, on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabek and Métis People.
The Algoma Community Legal Clinic is seeking a full-time contract staff lawyer for a term of one year. The position may have an opportunity to become permanent. Preferred start date April 1, 2020.
The successful applicant will be practising administrative law with an emphasis in Ontario Works, ODSP, Landlord and Tenant, and CPP. The position involves the provision of services in Sault Ste. Marie and within our catchment area, the District of Algoma. The staff lawyer is also expected to engage in public legal education, law reform and community development initiatives.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Familiarity with Clinic areas of law
- Excellent research, writing and advocacy skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
- At least 2 years experience providing legal services in a community legal clinic is an asset.
- Ability to provide services in French is an asset
- Experience in employment law is an asset.
Salary Range based on year of call and relevant experience. A comprehensive benefit package included.
