Industrial Accident Victims Group celebrates 40th anniversary of serving low-income clients

Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) extends congratulations to the Industrial Accident Victims Group (IAVGO) on its 40th year of fighting for justice for people living with injury from work-related accidents.

“LAO commends this specialty legal aid clinic and its dedicated staff for four decades of legal advice, legal representation, public legal education, advocacy training and community development,” says John McCamus, Chair of Legal Aid Ontario. “Like all of Ontario’s specialty clinics, the IAVGO provides expertise in a specialized area of the law, and does a great job of supporting its marginalized clients throughout Ontario.”

The clinic’s law reform work with other community legal clinics, advocacy groups, injured worker groups and unions has made a positive change in workers’ compensation laws and policy.

IAVGO’s community development activities in support of worker groups such as migrants, include organizing workers to meet with government and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) officials, to improve their rights under the legislation and to lobby for changes to WSIB policies.
