Legal Aid Ontario opens new family law centre
Thursday, June 27, 2013
To help meet a growing need for family law services, Legal Aid Ontario has opened a new family law service centre in Welland. The centre offers low-income Niagara region residents a one-stop source of legal advice, document preparation assistance and duty counsel assistance.
Located directly across the street from the Welland Courthouse, the centre can assist eligible clients with family legal matters such as separation, child custody and access, and support payments. In order to assess the right service for each client, all clients will be provided with a focused intervention at the outset to determine how LAO can help. Clients are encouraged to make an appointment ahead of time where possible.
The opening of the centre is part of a larger strategy on the part of Legal Aid Ontario to expand access points and provide more up-front information to clients. This is the seventh Family Law Service Centre that LAO has opened in the past couple of years. Family law service centres already established in Toronto, North York, Newmarket, Brampton, Chatham and Sarnia have been successful in helping to meet a growing need for family law services in Ontario.
The Welland Family Law Service Centre is co-located with Community Legal Services of Niagara South, at 3 Cross Street, 2nd Floor, Welland.
