Revised Tariff & Billing Handbook
The Handbook provides key information regarding LAO, legal aid certificates, billing practices, the civil and criminal tariff, travel tariff, disbursements, and costs and contributions.
Key revisions made to the Handbook:
The Handbook now contains the April 1, 2007 hourly rates for criminal, civil, junior counsel, articling students.
Civil Tariff - subsequent pre-trials Chapter 4-5
A screen capture of the Online Portal billing page clearly shows how to bill subsequent pre-trials.
Criminal Tariff - subsequent trial days and court time Chapter 3-8
In indictable matters, please enter all subsequent trial days and court time.
Disbursements - translation of ID docs (Immigration) Chapter 6-32
Prior approval required if a claimant has a genuine passport in English or French.
Costs & Contributions - family Chapter 7-2
See sample wording for support court orders related to costs in legal aid cases. The Family Responsibility Office doesn't enforce and collect costs in family law matters funded by legal aid.
