Legal Aid Ontario offers new client services for criminal matters at Milton courthouse

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Beginning Oct. 16, Legal Aid Ontario is offering an appointment-based service at the Milton courthouse where low-income people can meet with a lawyer for help with their criminal matters. If more time is required, clients who meet the financial eligibility test for duty counsel services can get legal advice specific to their court case.

Lawyers will give advice and assist with a variety of criminal matters including:

  • assistance with bail variations
  • arranging and attending crown resolution meetings
  • preparing for judicial pre-trials
  • assisting with pleas
  • setting trial dates
  • making referrals to LAO’s certificate program
  • making referrals to LAO senior litigators
  • making referrals to other community resources

This service is an enhancement to our existing duty counsel service and will complement those services provided by private bar. This service is separate from the certificate program.
