Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) congratulates HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO) for 20 years of improving access to justice for people living with HIV/AIDS in Ontario.
“Over the past 20 years, HALCO has worked together with those living with HIV/AIDS to help ensure their rights and dignity are respected,” says John McCamus, Chair of LAO. “Everything that HALCO does—from the legal services it provides to its law reform and community development initiatives—is done with respect, care and understanding of the unique legal problems confronted by people living with HIV/AIDS.”
This community legal clinic opened in 1995 with the vision of a society where laws and the legal system help reduce discrimination, stigma, poverty and injustice faced by people living with HIV/AIDS.
HALCO is an independent registered charity funded by LAO, the AIDS Bureau of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, as well as support from corporations, foundations and individual donors.
