A lawyer at Ottawa’s West End Legal Services, Laurie Joe has been an active member of the Association of French-Speaking Jurists of Ontario (AJEFO) for many years and a tireless advocate for access to justice in French.
According to AJEFO, Laurie Joe distinguishes herself through her dedication to her work. For years, she has fought on behalf of vulnerable people in her role as a lawyer. She is an energetic and dynamic advocate who’s made a significant impact in the areas of social justice and immigration. What’s more, Laurie has been an active volunteer in her community, particularly in support of women who’ve been victims of sexual violence.
Laurie Joe is well known among her peers for her willingness to train and act as a mentor to students of the University of Ottawa’s French common law program and their Law Practice Program.
“Laurie is well-recognized and respected by her peers and we’re lucky to have had her as an employee for over 20 years. Her hard work and dedication has without doubt enhanced the clinic’s reputation in the community,” said Jacques Chartrand, Executive Director at West End Legal Services. “The Board members and staff of West End Legal are proud of her accomplishments, and we congratulate her on her recent award from AJEFO.”
AJEFO bestowed its Order of Merit on Laurie Joe June 27, 2015 at the group’s annual general meeting in Lafayette, Louisiana.
LAO extends congratulations to Laurie Joe for all her work enhancing access to justice for vulnerable Francophone people in Ontario.
