New family law advice clinic comes to Tilbury

Posted: Monday, March 2, 2015

Residents in the Tilbury area who need information about family law matters can now speak with a Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) lawyer at a monthly legal advice clinic.

LAO family lawyer Rocio Alvarez will hold 30-minute appointments with clients at the Tilbury clinic on the first Monday afternoon of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The first advice clinic was held on March 2.

The clinic operates in space provided by the United Way of Chatham-Kent at the Tilbury Information & H.E.L.P. Centre at 20 Queen Street North in Tilbury. The Centre provides meeting spaces for community agencies and organizations that serve clients from the Tilbury area.

Family law services

Clients can receive summary legal advice and information about family law issues such as:

  • separation
  • divorce
  • child custody
  • child and spousal support
  • counsel will also provide advice on Children’s Aid Society matters

If clients meet LAO’s financial eligibility criteria, they can receive enhanced legal services including assistance with legal document preparation.

“Many clients in Tilbury face transportation problems to get to Chatham or Leamington in order to get legal help and advice,” says Kaitlyn McCabe, manager of legal services for LAO’s Essex Lambton Kent district. “This clinic will provide real access to justice for many people and will be of great service to the people of Tilbury.”
