Coming this spring: New family law service centre in Oshawa
Posted: Monday, April 14, 2014
This spring, Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is opening a new family law service centre in Oshawa, conveniently located in the Oshawa legal aid office at 111 Simcoe Street North, near Oshawa’s new courthouse.
Like Ontario’s eight other family law service centres, the Oshawa family law service centre will prepare documents needed for family matters in the courts. The centre will also direct clients to the most appropriate service in the community, such as:
- an immediate referral to deal with a family crisis
- early referral to a non-litigation service such as mediation
- information on the LAO website
- referral to LAO’s free toll-free telephone line to apply for a legal aid certificate.
To get assistance, clients must be financially eligible for legal aid and referred by the Family Law Information Centre in the Oshawa courthouse, duty counsel in the Oshawa courthouse or a representative ar LAO’s toll-free telephone telephone line.
Legal Aid Ontario extends thanks to the local external advisory committee, comprised of community members, the bar, and domestic violence agencies for their valuable input on the best way to direct services and meet client needs.
The expansion of family law services in Oshawa is one of a number of family law projects LAO is investing in to improve its services for low-income Ontarians
