Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) recently sent community legal clinics a letter on clinic funding for the 2013/14 fiscal year.

... Legal Aid Ontario (LAO)’s overall budget for clinic law services has increased from $67.8 million in 2012/13 to $70.9 million for 2013/14 – an increase of $3.15 million, or 4.6 per cent. This increase includes $4.15 million in new funding for clinics which is offset by a $1 million reduction to core clinic funding as a result of a $3 million reduction to LAO’s overall transfer payment as detailed in the Ontario 2013 Budget.
As you are aware, the provincial government announced additional LAO funding of $30 million over three years ($10 million annually), beginning in 2013/14, to “improve access to justice and enhance outcomes for low-income families, victims of domestic violence and other vulnerable groups by strengthening the capacity of Family Law Service Centres and other community and legal clinics across Ontario to respond to evolving needs, and ensure services are sustainable.” The details regarding the allocation of the new funding will be announced in the near future. LAO expects there will be new investment in clinic law services as a result of the new funding. ...
