More great resources for refugee claimants on

Thursday, July 4, 2013

The resources for refugee claimants area on Legal Aid Ontario (LAO)'s LawFacts website has added many more useful pages. Visitors can now access up-to-date information on:

  • starting a claim
  • appealing refugee decisions
  • what to do before a hearing
  • an expanded “documents for your claim” section which outlines documents needed for a refugee claim and helpful resources for collecting and submitting them online
  • admissibility hearings

All information is easy to read, bilingual and complete with an interactive glossary.

These improvements build upon information posted earlier in the year that provide an overview of what refugee claimants need to know, timelines, information about Designated Countries of Origin, advice on how to complete a Basis of Claim form, information on judicial reviews and helpful resources to get the process started.

LawFacts is LAO's free online legal information resource for individuals with questions about both refugee and criminal law in Ontario. In December 2012, LAO published public legal information on the refugee law process where making a claim for refugee protection in Canada changed as a result of amendments to the refugee law system.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the refugee resources on LawFacts. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
