Legal Aid Ontario’s (LAO) newly launched legal information website, LawFacts.ca, has attracted over 15,150 visits since it went live in December 2011.
The new website was designed to help educate online users about the criminal legal process and so far it seems to be meeting this aim. Eighty-two per cent of visits to LawFacts represent new visitors, while the remaining 18 are returning visitors. People are also spending an average of four and a half minutes reading an average of five pages per visit.
LawFacts offers Ontarians access to practical information, such as first appearances, bail and diversion, and a database of common forms found in criminal court. Although LAO created the site as a way to make more substantive legal information available to all Ontarians, visitors are encouraged to speak with their lawyers or duty counsel before choosing a course of action.
In the first two months, visitors to LawFacts:
- have spent an average of four minutes a half seconds on the site
- have read an average of six pages per visit
- are mostly first-time visitors. Eighty-two per cent of visitors to LawFacts are new
