Former LAO chair now bencher for Law Society board of directors

Janet Leiper, Legal Aid Ontarioís (LAO) board chair from 2004-2007, has been elected as a bencher for the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC). She is one of 18 women who were chosen to join LSUCís board of directors in April.
Ms. Leiper is a sole practitioner whose practice is a blend of criminal and administrative law. While she is mainly defence counsel, she has also been a part-time Crown Attorney, and has been involved in the investigation and prosecution stages in administrative matters. Ms. Leiper has acted as both independent counsel and as an adjudicator.
Ms. Leiper is the Integrity Commissioner for the City of Toronto, and is an alternate chair for both the Ontario and Nunavut Review Boards. She is presently a director for Pro Bono Law Ontario.
