Register for block fee training sessions now

Block fees phase 2: What’s new

  • Adjusted fees for the resolution of most criminal matters by guilty plea or withdrawal
  • The addition of many summary and indictable charges to the program, and a clear list of excluded charges and proceedings
  • New standard and authorized blocks for matters such as bail hearings, judicial pre-trials and vulnerable clients
  • An updated Legal Aid Online billing interface
  • New information on certificate amendments

The second phase of Legal Aid Ontario’s (LAO) criminal block fee pilot will come into effect on May 30, 2011. This phase of the pilot will result in important changes to billing policies and the Legal Aid Online system.

To help you understand the details of these changes, and as a refresher on LAO billing processes, we are offering live, web-based and in-person training sessions for criminal lawyers and their staff.

These sessions will include:

  • Information on block fee certificate issuance, and amendment policies and processes
  • Explanation of block fee billing rules
  • A demonstration of the new Legal Aid Online billing interface
  • An opportunity to have your process questions answered by LAO’s in-house experts

Training session dates

May

  • Wednesday, May 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 26 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, May 31 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

June

  • Thursday, June 2 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 7, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 15, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 21, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 29, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

July

  • Tuesday, July 5, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 13, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 19, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 27, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
