Block fee information sessions coming to a city near you
Posted on: Friday, May 20, 2011
Following the introduction of phase 2 of the block fee pilot earlier this week, Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is hosting information sessions across the province to further explain block fees, and answer questions from lawyers.
Block fees are fixed fees or rates that LAO pays lawyers for the appropriate resolution of some of the most common criminal charges, instead of an hourly tariff. The second phase of the pilot includes more block-fee eligible charges, and introduces new fee types, which are more responsive to the complexity and cost of criminal matters.
Lawyers interested in attending an information session can register and secure a space by clicking on the city sessions (listed below) they would like to attend. More information about block fees such as online tutorials, scenario examples and frequently asked questions can be found on LAO’s website.
