Legal Aid Ontario delivers news in a flash with RSS

Posted on: Thursday, February 10, 2011

Lawyers who would like to be up-to-date on what is happening at Legal Aid Ontario can now have news sent to them directly through RSS.

Really Simple Syndication, commonly known as RSS, is a web-based technology that allows you to keep track of your favourite websites. By implementing RSS into Legal Aid Ontario’s Hot Bytes page, lawyers can now automatically get new content as it becomes available on the website.

By automatically providing you information when new content goes live on a website instead of you having to go find it, RSS is the real-life equivalent of a store contacting you when new stock has arrived, instead of you having to call the store every day.

To view RSS feeds, you first need to either:

  • install a desktop-based RSS reader,
  • have an email program such as Outlook 2007,
  • have an online reader account such as Google Reader or one of the countless alternatives,
  • have a mobile device that can connect to the internet. RSS readers can be found on the devices ‘App Store’,
  • RSS readers for both Mac and Linux operating system can easily be found by searching your favorite search engine.

To subscribe to an RSS feed, simply click the RSS logo found on a RSS-ready webpage and your RSS reader will take care of the rest.
