LAO mediation pilot offers court alternatives to Windsor families
Posted on: Friday, February 4, 2011
Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is enhancing family law services for low-income Ontarians in Windsor through free family mediation services.
The new service was developed in partnership with local lawyers offering their services free of charge and the University of Windsor Mediation Service. The service offers low-income families a respectful and collaborative alternative to the court system. Eligible clients have the opportunity to resolve family law matters, such as child and spousal support, custody, and access.
The family mediation service is staffed by three pro bono lawyers trained through the Harvard Law School Mediation Program. University of Windsor law students assist by providing client intake and document follow-up services. The students are also able to observe the mediation sessions.
