Dockets will become mandatory in January
Posted on: Tuesday, December 21, 2010
Dockets will be required on all non-block fees accounts, starting January 1, 2011. Attaching dockets will ensure all the necessary information for each account is readily available to Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) staff, which will speed up decisions and payment of discretion accounts under review.
In order to support lawyers in this transition, LAO will accept legible handwritten dockets attached to Online accounts until March 31, 2011. After this, all dockets must be typed, as outlined in the Tariff and Billing Handbook.
Please begin to record all activities on your cases to ensure you will be able to meet this new requirement, as you will be unable to submit non-block fee accounts without dockets attached, starting in the new year.
A detailed Q&A, which was sent out in the B3 in October 2010, provides information on why LAO is requiring this information; sample civil and criminal dockets; and instructions on how to attach dockets.
For more support or questions regarding attaching dockets (detailed accounts), contact the Lawyer Service Centre (416) 979-9934 or 1-866-979-9934.
