Milton family mediation initiative launch

On Friday December 3rd Halton Region family lawyers, mediators, LAO staff and stakeholders gathered to celebrate the launch of LAO’s new family mediation initiative.

Bob Ward, President & CEO of Legal Aid Ontario, Ontario Court Justice Zisman, Superior Court Justice Coats and David Zimmer, Parliamentary Assistant to the Attorney General, delivered remarks at the Halton Region Museum to mark the occasion.

Now available in the Milton courthouse, LAO’s family mediation service helps low-income clients to resolve matters such as child support, custody and access. The service allows more families to settle their matters outside of the courtroom, thereby helping to reduce court delays and supporting the province’s justice system reform initiatives.

Establishing a new mediation service in Milton is just one part of LAO’s focus on expanding front-line services and improving access to justice for low-income Ontarians. Moving forward, LAO is looking at expanding mediation services to additional locations across Ontario.
