Community Legal Services of Niagara South is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. The Clinic strives to promote social and economic justice and works with other agencies to promote and protect the rights of individuals and build healthy communities. We have an immediate opening for the following position:
Executive Director
(Contract term - subject to renewal)
As a strategic visionary with experience working within a legal services system, you understand programs and policies and the importance of building relationships with various stakeholders and levels of government including external agencies.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, you provide efficient and effective overall management of the Clinic, with an emphasis on human resources, funding initiatives, long term sustainability, strategic planning, financial and program management, communications and community relations.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing and directing overall delivery of Clinic services for the catchment area
- Monitoring and managing risk management and regulatory compliance including financial, legal, insurance, health, safety and fire requirements
- Ensuring a planning process, implementation plan and evaluation of all Clinic goals and objectives
- Directing human resources including recruitment, performance management, staff appraisals, training and direct supervision of all legal staff
- Managing all aspects of the Clinic’s finances including budgeting, funding matters, proposals and all associated reporting requirements
- Establishing and maintaining effective external relations with the public, community, funders and external agencies
- Assisting Clinic lawyers and caseworkers with providing client services, file intake, summary advice, case representation with external tribunals and boards
- Representing the Clinic effectively to the public, community partners and external agencies
Qualifications include:
- LL.B. and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, with a minimum of 5 years experience,
- Senior management and administrative experience involving budgeting, marketing, human resources management, program and policy development,
- Familiarity with clinic law issues including ODSP, OW, LTB, WSIB, CPP, EI, Immigration/Refugee as well as social justice matters,
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills,
- Excellent written and communication skills,
- Demonstrated ability to foster strong teamwork and motivate staff,
- Computer literacy at advanced level, in NT Windows, Microsoft Word, some spreadsheet and database knowledge, Quicklaw, and Internet,
- Ability to travel throughout province as required.
