Huron/Perth Community Legal Clinic
is seeking a
Staff Lawyer
The Huron/Perth Community Legal Clinic is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario serving low-income residents of Huron and Perth Counties.
This community legal clinic has an opening for a Staff Lawyer. This is a one year contract position, with potential to be either renewed or become a permanent position. The successful candidate will be an important part of a team whose focus is to provide clinic law advice and representation, public legal education, law reform and community development activities to low- income members of our community. Further, she/he may assist with intake responsibilities. Areas of law will include: Income Maintenance, Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program, Residential Tenancy matters, Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance and matters of interest to low income residents of the two counties.
Qualifications include:
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of social justice.
- Commitment to the delivery of high quality legal services to disadvantaged individuals and groups.
- Effective advocacy skills.
- Solid research and written/verbal communication skills; sound judgment and effective problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Computer skills: MS Word, database, Internet & Quicklaw.
- Community legal clinic experience is an asset.
- Travel throughout Huron and Perth counties is required.
Salary Range:
